Know more. Then do something about it.
Our Foundational Health & FUnctional Testing Offering
Our functional lab testing goes well beyond what standard diagnostics reveal. By assessing hormones, gut health, inflammation, and micronutrient levels, we identify what's actually driving your symptoms, whether that's fatigue, mood, digestion, or a health picture that hasn't made sense anywhere else, and build a personalized plan around what your body actually needs.
Functional testing looks at your health through a wider lens than conventional medicine. Rather than checking whether your values fall within a population average, it asks what your results reveal about how your body is actually functioning and what specific imbalances may be contributing to your symptoms.
At Hamptons BioMed, functional testing is ordered and interpreted by Tapp Francke Ingolia, MS, CNS. Popular tests include the GI-MAP for gut health assessment and a range of specialized panels covering hormones, micronutrients, and inflammation markers. Testing is always selected based on your individual health picture, not a one-size protocol. (Looking for genetic or DNA-based testing? That lives on our Epigenetic Counseling page.)
What we Assess
Gut health and microbiome composition
Hormonal balance and metabolic function
Inflammation and immune markers
Micronutrient deficiencies and nutritional status
Genetic vulnerabilities and epigenetic patterns
Thyroid and adrenal function
Environmental toxin load
Methylation pathways
How Functional Testing Works
your Functional Testing experience

Testing begins with an Initial Consultation with Tapp to review your health history, current symptoms, and goals. She will recommend the most appropriate panels for your situation and provide instructions for sample collection, which in many cases can be done from home. Once results are returned, Tapp reviews them in full context and builds a personalized protocol based on what she finds. Follow-up appointments track your progress and refine your plan as your body responds.
What functional lab testing may offer:
- Identification of hidden imbalances before symptoms progress
- A clear foundation for a personalized wellness protocol
- Biomarker tracking to measure progress over time
- Precision and context that standard diagnostics cannot provide

Founding Partner & Clinical Nutrition And Foundational Health Director
Tapp Francke Ingolia, MS, CNS
Tapp's approach to health goes far beyond what people typically expect from nutrition counseling. Drawing on genetics, functional lab testing, hormonal balance, and the connection between micronutrients and mood, she gets to the foundation of what's actually driving how you feel, whether that's fatigue, anxiety, digestive issues, or a health picture that hasn't made sense anywhere else. From there, she builds protocols that include diet, supplements and daily habits as well as drawing on our longevity technologies and, where needed, refers into our medical providers on staff, making her Initial Consult one of the best starting points for a holistic Health Action Plan. You leave that appointment with an action plan. Her focus stays on what you can actually do, not just what your labs or genes predict. Tapp holds a Master's degree in Nutrition and Integrative Health and is a Pulse-Certified PEMF practitioner, Certified Lyme Specialist, and DNA Life trained Genomic Counselor. In 2013 she founded STANDwellness, where her practice focused on methylation, digestive health, microbial imbalance, chronic disease, and inflammation. At HBM, she leads all clinical nutrition, epigenetic counseling, and functional lab programming.

Functional Testing Frequently Asked Questions
Standard lab work checks whether values fall within broad population ranges. Functional testing uses more sensitive reference ranges, assesses a wider range of markers, and is interpreted in the context of your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. The goal is not to rule out disease but to understand how your body is functioning and where support is most needed.
We handle the logistics so you don't have to. After your Initial Consult (a 90 minute appointment with Tapp), Tapp will recommend any testing that's relevant to your goals. From there, our team orders your test kit and coordinates delivery directly to you, along with instructions for completing it. Once you've completed your test, you send it back using the return instructions included with your kit. Results are sent directly to us, and once we have them, we'll reach out to schedule your follow-up with Tapp to review your results and build your plan.
No. Testing is one pathway into the HBM protocol but not a prerequisite. Many clients begin with a Technology Guidance Appointment or IV Essential Therapy and add functional testing when they are ready to go deeper.
Our functional tests are collected at home and shipped to the lab, making them accessible regardless of your location. Your consultation with Tapp can be conducted in person or virtually.
Tapp will meet with you to review your results in full and translate them into a clear, actionable protocol. This includes nutritional recommendations, supplement protocols, lifestyle adjustments, and any further testing or referrals if indicated.
